Christine Lee in Politics

Your Opinion Counts!

worktogether.jpgThis website highlights Christine Lee's campaign to encourage the Chinese community to get interested and involved in politics. How the country is governed and which laws are passed affect all of us that live, work and study in the UK.

Through this site we aim to make the government aware of the Chinese community's needs so that we too can be considered and, better still, be part of the decision making process.

Stop! Do Not Remove

Following the high profile immigration raids in October 2007, Christine Lee's firm of solicitors has been working hard to secure the release of those detained in such raids across the country.

In January the firm successfully applied for a "stay of removal" for over a dozen detained workers and secured their release on bail whilst awaiting court hearings. Since then Christine and her team of solicitors have continued to fight for the release of other workers held in detention.

Once detained, workers face the possibility of immediate deportation. Where circumstances allow the legal team will apply for a "stay of removal", which prevents them from being deported. On several occasions these have been granted whilst the detainee was about to board the plane. After gaining a "stay of removal", detainees may apply for release prior to court hearings that will decide their future. In many cases release may be granted on condition of sureties being provided by a friend or family member. Bail sums (surety) will vary and will be fixed by the Court hearing the individual case(s). Persons standing as sureties will need to prove that they have the required funds in their bank account and can pay in the event that the detainee breaches the bail conditions.
